Beverly Govoni Medeiros

Beverly Elouise Medeiros, 84, passed away in Charlotte, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family. Beverly was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, in 1942 to Catherine Bradshaw and Joseph Govoni. She spent much of her early and adult life in Massachusetts and, in her 20s, lived at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina before eventually returning to Massachusetts and then North Carolina in retirement.

Beverly was the beloved mother of Cheryl (Brad) Mosley and Sharon (Eric) Kucia. She shared nearly 20 years of her life with her first husband, Richard John Turner, the father of her children. She later married Leonard James Medeiros, and they shared more than 30 years of marriage together. Leonard preceded her in death in 2025.

Family was at the center of Beverly’s life. Her greatest joy was caring for the people she loved and creating a warm and welcoming home for them. She was especially well known for the holiday meals and desserts she lovingly prepared for her family. Her apple pie and lemon icebox cake were family favorites and became part of the traditions and memories that will be cherished for generations. Beverly took great pride in bringing everyone together around the table, and her kitchen was often the heart of the family gatherings she loved so much.

Beverly had a creative and generous spirit. She loved gardening, crocheting, and knitting, especially slippers for her family and friends. She often turned her handiwork into gifts for others, putting love and thought into everything she made. After retirement, she and Leonard enjoyed traveling to the Florida Keys, where they made many wonderful memories together and formed friendships that became part of their lives.

Beverly attended the Addison Gilbert Nursing School in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and worked in banking for more than 30 years, including many years at Fairhaven Savings Bank, Shawmut Bank and Bristol County Savings Bank. She took pride in her work and, true to her nature, developed genuine connections with the people she encountered throughout her career.

Those who knew Beverly will remember her most for her extraordinary optimism and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. She truly never met a stranger. Beverly could strike up a conversation with anyone she encountered and had a remarkable ability to make people feel as though they had known each other for years. She was warm, engaging and genuinely interested in others. Her positive spirit and generosity remained constants throughout her life.

Beverly’s Catholic faith was at the heart of who she was. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Parish in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, where she received all of her sacraments. After moving to North Carolina, she became a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville. She was wholly devoted to the Blessed Mother and faithfully prayed the Rosary every day. Her devotion to Mary was not simply a practice, but a source of comfort, strength and guidance throughout her life. Beverly also lived her faith through service to others. At St. Therese, she volunteered with the parish’s prayer blanket ministry, lovingly knitting blankets for those in need of comfort and prayer. She quietly gave of herself to others in countless ways, often without expecting anything in return.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard James Medeiros; her parents, Catherine Bradshaw and Joseph Govoni; and her brother, Joseph Govoni.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Brad) Mosley and Sharon (Eric) Kucia; her stepchildren, Bryan Medeiros (Sheryl), Beth (Jason) Gartner, and Keith (Kim McLaughlin) Medeiros; her sister, Dorothy DiDomenico; and her beloved grandchildren, Alexandra Kennedy, Peyton Rapoza, Madeline Mosley, James Mosley, Zachery Gartner, Jessica (Alex) Strand, Grace Gartner, James Medeiros and Caleb Medeiros, as well as her great-grandchild, Rowan Strand.\

Her visiting Hours will be held at St. Joseph's Church, 74 Spring St, Fairhaven, MA 02719, US, on August 26, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Beverly leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, family, optimism and kindness. She will be remembered for the holiday meals she prepared, her famous apple pie and lemon icebox cake, the slippers she lovingly knitted, the gardens she tended, the Rosary she faithfully prayed, and the conversations she had with everyone she met. Most of all, she will be remembered for the love she gave so freely to her family and friends. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the warmth, faith and joy she brought to so many lives will remain with those who knew and loved her.
