

Bruce was predeceased by his beloved wife, Janice (Cardoza) Monte, with whom he shared 45 wonderful years of marriage. He is survived by his long-time companion, Karen Jackson of Raynham, with whom he spent 16 fulfilling years.
Bruce was a devoted father to his children, Susan Chace and her fiancé, Michael Major of Dartmouth, and William Monte of Dartmouth. He was a proud grandfather to Brian Chace and his wife, Rachel of Rhode Island, and Nathan Chace of Dartmouth. He also adored his great-granddaughter, Vivienne Charland of Rhode Island. Bruce is also survived by his brother, Barry Monte and his wife, Linda of Acushnet, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Bruce was a man of deep faith, a regular member of his church community, and someone who found solace and joy in his spiritual life. He was a man of quiet strength and gentle kindness who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life.
Professionally, Bruce worked in maintenance at St. Luke's Hospital, but his career also included roles at Dartmouth Housing, Quaker Oats, Calvin Klein, and the Fairhaven Boatyard. He was known for his strong work ethic, his reliability, and his thoughtfulness.
Bruce was an enthusiastic collector, and his family will fondly remember his love for puzzle making, his vast DVD collection including Laurel and Hardy and The Three Stooges, and the countless afternoons spent listening to jazz and 40s and 50s music with his daughter, Susan. He was also known for his love of ice cream, antique shopping, and especially visiting the Newport Mansions and Disney. The holiday season, especially visits to La Salette Shrine, was a favorite time of year for Bruce, and he had a special passion for line dancing with Karen. His heart was filled with generosity, and he was always there to lend a hand to those he loved.
Bruce was also a cherished friend, and he shared a lifelong friendship with his best friend, Michael “Mickey” Barboza, and many others who were blessed to know him.
He was the brother of the late JoAnne Monte.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial in South Dartmouth Cemetery, 507 Elm Street, Dartmouth.
