

A graduate of New Bedford High School, Carl attended S.M.U. and later received an Associate's degree in Fine Arts from Bristol Community College—an education that reflected a steady appreciation for learning and the arts.
Carl served four years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era, attaining the rank of Airman First Class. He was awarded the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award, and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. Following his military service, Carl worked for 40 years as a Claims Examiner at the Newport Naval Base War College until his retirement, bringing diligence and reliability to a long and faithful career.
Carl was married to his longtime sweetheart, Deborah A. (Galanek), for 52 years. He is also survived by his brother, Paul Pavao and his wife; along with cousins; and his brother-in-law, Walter Galanek. He was the son of the late Carlos C. Pavao and Virginia (Santos) Pavao.
Carl’s interests reflected a thoughtful and creative spirit. He found enjoyment in the arts, photography, traveling, cooking, and socializing with friends—pursuits that spoke to a life enriched by beauty, good conversation, and shared moments.
