Carmela Iamele

Born in Italy, Carmela came to Boston in 1961 and has lived in New Bedford since 1969. She was the daughter of the late Giovanni Ruggiero and Filomena (Borriello) Ruggiero.

A homemaker, Mrs. Iamele enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving is one daughter; Silvana Duarte and her husband Albert of Plymouth, one son; John D. Iamele and his wife Leonor of North Dartmouth, one sister; Rose Torvino of Italy, 3 grandchildren; Michael, Jessica and Nicholas and several great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Antonietta Ruggiero.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 9am from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA followed by funeral mass at 10am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4256 Acushnet Ave, New Bedford. Visiting hours are Tuesday, November 8, 2011 from 5-7pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Beacon Hospice, Inc., 8 Samoset St., Plymouth, MA 02369.Burial at Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven.
