Carmen R. Montanez

Carmen R. Montanez, aged 86, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026 at St. Luke's Hospital. Born on March 27, 1940, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, Carmen later came to the United States and made her home in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Ydelfonso Valentine and Cecilia (Rodriguez) Valentine.

Carmen enjoyed sewing, crocheting and praying the rosary daily. She loved spending time with her loving grandchildren.

Carmen was preceded in death by her husband, Jose M. Montanez, Sr. She is survived by her devoted children: Ana Aldarondo and her husband Edwin; Jose Montanez Jr. and his wife Kathryn; and Martha R. Gonzalez and her husband Anibal. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Sarik Ramos, Damian Ramos, Keanu Aldarondo and Angelina Gonzalez. She is survived by her siblings, Ramona Rosado, Santo Valentin, Isabel Sanchez, Awilda Franqui, Miguel Valentin and Olga Iris Gonzalez. She was predeceased by her siblings, Alejandro Valentin, Nelson Valentin, Maria Montanez and Hector Valentin.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 10:00 am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1359 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford followed by burial in Acushnet Cemetery.
