She was born in New Bedford, the daughter of Joseph George O’Brien of New Bedford and the late Florence (Marcotte) O’Brien. Carol spent her youth in Acushnet and was a graduate of Fairhaven High School. She lived in parts of eastern Connecticut and later returned to the New Bedford area.
Carol enjoyed drawing, painting, playing tennis and reading avidly. She enjoyed nature and animals of all kinds. Whether it be bringing home stray animals to the distress of her father as a child or travelling the country to work for Yellowstone National Park, Carol could find no animal that she did not care for. Often times her love for drawing and painting would meet with her love for animals as they were the inspiration for her pieces.
In addition to her father, Joseph George and his partner Mary Souza, she is survived by two children, Melissa Do Couto and her husband Kevin currently of Coventry, RI and Nicholas Dufresne of Preston, CT; her former husband Dennis Dufresne of Preston, CT; six brothers and sisters, Jackie O’Brien, Sue Bagdonis and her husband Glenn, Larry O’Brien and his wife Kathleen, Janet Girard and her husband Jerome, Joan Dextraze and her husband David and John O’Brien and his wife Andrea; nine nieces and nephews, Heidi O’Brien, Guthrie Bagdonis and his wife Stephanie, Emily Bochman and her husband Ryan, Kristen O‘Brien, Jeremy Girard and his wife Laura, Daniel Girard, Katie Burke and her husband Dan, Julie Dextraze and Kaylee O’Brien; three great nieces and nephew, Olivia Girard, Lucas Girard and Ainsley Bagdonis.
