

Cornelis “Kees” Blom, age 67, of Somerset passed away, June 23, 2019 in a tragic motor vehicle accident. He was the husband of Susan (Girard) Blom with whom he shared 30 years of marriage; and the son of the late IJsbrand Blom and Elizabeth Blom-Otting.
Kees was born in Amsterdam and was promoted to Sergeant while serving in the Dutch Army. From the mid 70's to late 80's he work as Chief Electrician on board the Holland America cruise ships where he met his wife, Susan. He moved to America and went back to school earning his Bachelor of Science and Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from UMass Dartmouth.
Kees worked as an RF Microwave Engineer at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in the Submarine Division for 15 years; and presently was working part time for SeaCorp for the last 3 years. He enjoyed traveling, playing his banjo, riding his Ducati motorcycles and attending the Penquin Track Experience Days. He was looking forward to retirement and spending more time with his granddaughter Lydia who was the highlight of his life.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Blom, her boyfriend Benjamin Cooney, a grandchild Lydia Grace Cooney all of Fall River; three sisters: Coby Blom, Els Blom and Wies Ranzijn-Blom from the Netherlands, several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Benje.
His Memorial services will be held on Saturday July 20th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at His Providence Church 262 Swansea Mall Dr., Swansea, MA 02777 located at the Swansea Mall in the old Macy's building.
