Curtis Bradford Moraes, a compassionate, devoted, and beloved member of the New Bedford community, passed away on September 17, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on April 27, 1959, in New Bedford, Curt was a kind-hearted, thoughtful, and honest individual who touched the lives of many with his gentle and selfless nature.
Curt was the cherished son of the late Anselmo and Mary Lou (Angelo) Moraes. He was a graduate of Salve Regina, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Curt furthered his education by obtaining a Master's degree in Business Administration from Johnson and Wales University and a degree in Funeral Service from the New England Institute of Arts and Science.
In 1981, Curt began his career in Funeral Service at Donaghy Funeral Home, working alongside James Barton, then working with the Saunders-Dwyer family. His career path then led him to the Weight Watchers organization, where he served as the East Coast regional manager for 25 years. Curt later returned to his roots in funeral service, working for Rock Funeral Home as Location Manager until his retirement.
Curt was preceded in death by his late wife, Kathleen M. (Reed) Moraes, who passed away in November 2024. He is survived by his daughter, Meaghan Moraes Gerzon, and her husband Gabriel, and his son, Gregory Moraes, and his partner Crystal Shaughnessy. Curt was a devoted grandfather to Ethan Gerzon and a loving brother to Gary Moraes. He also leaves behind cousins Paul Vieira and Dina Bianco.
Family was Curt’s greatest joy in life. He found happiness in tending to his garden, traveling with his family, and spending time at Anthony's Beach. A former member of the Acushnet Lions Club, Curt was also a loyal and generous friend to many. He cherished his dogs, Molly May, Tucker, and Gracie, who had gone before him.
Curt Bradford Moraes will be remembered for his hard-working spirit and his unwavering loyalty to those he loved. His legacy of generosity and faithfulness will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025 from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at 10:00 am in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford followed by burial in South Dartmouth Cemetery.
