Cynthia A. Stone

Cynthia A. (Martins) Stone, 73, of Acushnet passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at home after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Larry Stone with whom she shared 37 years of marriage.

Born in Acushnet, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Irene Martins. She resided in Acushnet for the past 50 years. She was a graduate of Dartmouth High School and Bridgewater State College where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in education.

Mrs. Stone was a teacher for the Acushnet Public Schools for 35 years where she played an active part in the Acushnet Teacher’s Association. Cynthia was very passionate about literacy and continued to promote its importance in volunteer work with Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of the Acushnet Historical Society and enjoyed volunteering in the Peach Cobbler Booth at the annual Apple Peach Festival.

She enjoyed traveling all over the world with her husband, entertaining and socializing with friends, The Breakfast Club, Zumba class, wine tasting, and baking her famous cookies.

Surviving in addition to her husband, is her Goddaughter, Lisa Carvalho of Dartmouth who was like a daughter to her. She was the Godmother of the late Jessica Carvalho and the beloved cousin of the late Sandra Carvalho.

Her Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 789 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth. Burial will be private. Visiting hours Monday 4-7 p.m. in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to her Goddaughter’s scholarship fund.
