

A graduate of Mt. Carmel School and Holy Family High School, Daniel went on to serve his country as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps. After his service, he worked as a typewriter repair technician, before going to school and starting his own business repairing televisions as "the TV man". He then went on to teach electronics at Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School and New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, until his retirement.
Daniel was married to Helena J. (Farris) Tavares for 56 wonderful years. He was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Mary (Bagao) Tavares. Daniel is survived by his son, Eric A. Tavares, and his daughter, Lenora M. Delgado, along with her husband, Mario. He was a cherished grandfather to Jamil Tavares and Gavin Delgado.
In his personal life, Daniel was a man of many interests. He enjoyed coin collecting, screen printing, aikido, and metal detecting. He was a member of the New Bedford Revolver and Rifle Club and was actively involved in his community as a member of Our Lady of Purgatory Church in New Bedford.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Rock Funeral Home, located at 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford. His Funeral will take place on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 9:00 am from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Purgatory Church, 4254 Acushnet Ave, New Bedford. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1213 Kempton St., New Bedford.
