This is Ana, a sister in Christ from Romania, who met David's brother, Christian, in England, at the University of Hull. I have known David through his brother, who had nothing but praise for his brother. I cannot imagine the trying times that his family is going through in this very difficult season. I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to my uncle and auntie, to my brother Christian, our sister Princess, and to David's extended family and friends. The Christ that we serve and worship, is the same Christ that became part of our suffering on the Cross.

My Original Playmate, My Partner in Crime, and, Most Importantly, My Brother

This is one of the hardest things I have ever had to write. Part of me still struggles to believe that this has happened. I keep hoping that somehow this is only a bad dream and that I will wake up to find you still here.

Looking back now, I realise just how much of a gift you were to me. You taught me so much, challenged me in so many ways, and always made me want to be a better person. You were my younger brother, but in so many ways, I looked up to you. You were hardworking, incredibly intelligent, sometimes stubborn, fiercely loyal, and the athlete of our family. You always had my back, but above all, you were kind, compassionate, and blessed with an amazing heart.

I have spent the past few weeks going through the memories we shared—the laughter, the adventures, the arguments, the mischief, the victories, and all the little moments that made growing up with you the greatest experience of my life.

I am heartbroken that our journey together has been cut short. I wish we had more time to create memories, more conversations to have, more dreams to share, and more years ahead of us. I wish we could have grown old together, become grandfathers, and sat somewhere watching our children and grandchildren carry on the legacy we built.

There is still so much I wish I could tell you, show you, and share with you. But I hold on to the hope that this is not goodbye forever. By the grace of God, I believe we will meet again one day, and when we do, we will have the greatest catch-up.

This one hurts me the deepest, and I am still trying to process it. Yet, even in the midst of this pain, I choose to trust God. I may not understand His reasons, but I will not question His sovereignty. I pray that He gives Mum, Dad, Gogo, the entire family, your friends, and all of us who loved you the strength to carry on.

Dear Kaka,

The last time I saw you, you were still a little boy, and although many years have passed, what I remember most is your warm and gentle smile. I could never have imagined that the next time I would be writing about you would be to say goodbye.

I did not have the privilege of knowing the remarkable young man you grew to become, but I have heard about the life you lived—the intelligent and inventive young man who pursued his education in Boston, became an engineer, and built a promising life for himself. More importantly, I have heard of the love you carried for your family and how, despite the distance, you remained close to them and to the Christian values and faith in which you were raised.

At only 32, your time with us feels far too short. Yet a life is not measured only by the number of years lived, but also by what it leaves behind in the hearts of others.

And Kaka, you left love behind.

You left beautiful memories. You left the pride of parents and family who loved you deeply. You left the memory of your intelligence, your accomplishments, your warmth, and the quiet imprint of a life that mattered.

Thank you for the legacy of love and peace you left behind. Thank you for the joy you brought to your family and for giving them memories that even death cannot take away.

My prayer is that the God whom your family has loved and served will receive you into His eternal rest, and that the same God will carry your parents and everyone who loves you through the unimaginable pain of losing you.

We last saw you several years ago when you were under the care of your loving parents.

I could’ve never imagined that the summer would be ending without you. I still cannot believe you are gone.

From the day we met, I saw something special in you. You gave me space to turn off my brain after a difficult day. We looked at the sky, listened to the birds, and simply existed together. That quiet moment showed me the peace you could bring to others.

To be around you was to experience patience, love, understanding, and gentleness. You were incredibly kind, and you made people feel cared for. Anyone who knew you could feel your light.

You took so much pride in your family and your culture. You spoke proudly of your mom and how smart she was, your dad and the leader you believed him to be, your sister whom you loved deeply, your amazing brother, and your kind friends. The love you had for them said so much about your heart.

You were passionate about engineering and creating solutions. You were always learning through your career, hobbies, and curiosity. I admired how excited you were to understand, build, solve, and create. I looked forward to seeing what you would accomplish and the legacy you would build for your family.

You taught me that showing up matters. You were there, always, and did everything you could to make the people you cared about feel your presence and know they mattered.

I will miss your hugs, laughter, smile, movie nights, soft pretzels, staring at the stars, experiencing nature, and all the adventures we never finished. There were so many more hikes, movies, road trips, restaurants, documentaries, and ordinary days ahead.

David, I loved you deeply, and knowing you was a gift. You left an imprint on me that will continue to shape how I love, listen, and show up for the people who matter to me. I will carry your memory, lessons, and light with me for the rest of my life.

I wish there had been more time. More conversations. More adventures. More ordinary days.

David’s sudden passing is a profound loss for all of us.

David was a gentle soul, a kind and loyal friend, and a dear brother to me. He kept his word and was an absolute joy to be around. His warmth, kindness, and presence made every interaction with him meaningful.

“Uncle David” was especially kind to my daughter, and I will always be grateful for the love and care he showed her. We both miss him dearly.

We have lost a truly wonderful person. I am deeply saddened that David is no longer here to accomplish the many remarkable goals we often talked about. He was a gifted, capable engineer with so much promise, and I know he would have continued making the world a brighter, better place for so many people.

“Best Cousin” that’s what you always called me. I never imagined there would come a day when those words would carry this much weight.

Kaka, the news of your passing was difficult to comprehend, and even now, it doesn’t quite feel real. You had such an unmistakable love for life; always smiling, always bringing warmth and positive energy wherever you went.

Some of my fondest memories of you go back to our childhood: the laughter, the fun, and the simple moments that seemed ordinary then but feel priceless now. Your visit to Houston is one I will always remember. Having you here brought back that same sense of closeness we shared growing up.

Eni and I often talked about visiting you in Massachusetts. We always believed there would be more time. I deeply wish we had made that trip and had one more opportunity to sit together, laugh, and simply enjoy each other’s company.

What I will remember most is your spirit. You had a warm, captivating smile and a way of carrying joy with you. We encouraged each other through different seasons of life, and I find some comfort in knowing that the last time we spoke, you were in good spirits. It is very painful to lose a loved one, we were all heartbroken to hear this sad news of your departure from this earth. You were a very big part of our family as a whole. The sudden death of David O. Okide (Kaka) came to me as a rude shock and was deeply devastating. I found it difficult to believe that you were gone, especially because you were not known to be sick. Your sudden departure has left us with pain, sorrow, and many unanswered questions.

I knew David from his younger days as a loving, caring, and respectful son to his parents. He was a young man whose life touched those around him, and it is heartbreaking to know that he has left this world so suddenly.

Kaka, your death reminds us once again of the uncertainty and brevity of life. Though we may not understand why God allowed this to happen at this time, we take comfort in the knowledge that God alone knows the beginning and the end of every life.

Some losses are simply too deep for words. David, though your life was brief, it was filled with meaning, purpose, and a light that touched so many lives.

I will always keep you in my memory. I am still trying to comprehend your death, when we landed in Boston, I thought you and your friend were playing a prank on us and I expected you to pop out of somewhere but it became real to me when I couldn’t see you and was taking to the hotel.

I will always remember your immense love for me, Mum always used to tell me of the way you took care of me as a baby when she was busy, you showered me, fed me, and even drove my stroller when we were in Dubai. You have always been very fond of babies for as long as I have known you. 

I remember all the times when we came to America to visit you, you would always affectionately pat my head before going to work. I will never forget your beautiful smiles which lit up the place. You always stood up for me and comforted me when I felt down, you listened attentively to what I had to say and treated me very kindly. You would always buy anything that I asked for no matter what it was.

I remember you being very happy when I was following in your footsteps in sports. You were so happy every time I got a medal and will always congratulate me, even if you were busy.

I could never have expected this day to come so soon but I thank God for the time I got to spend with you and the memories of you that I have. Kaka, your passing has left a space that words can barely capture.

Being just two years apart, I always felt like time was on our side and that life would give us endless chances to catch up, share a laugh and make more memories. I never imagined that the time we spent together in Houston would become a chapter I would hold onto so tightly. Even with the years and distance between us, those shared moments never faded.

Kaka, I was left speechless upon hearing of your passing. But as I remember the kind of person you were; always joyful, always laughing, I choose to focus on the beautiful life you lived, your achievements and impact you had on every life you touched.

I couldn’t help but reminisce on the moments we shared.  It starts with the story of the first time you set eyes on me at a tender age, alongside your brother Chuby. You had both conspired that you needed 2 baby girls, and one had been found, being me, as you both strolled out with the baby stroller I was in, with the aim of taking me home to Lagos. From that moment, a bond was formed.

You always treated me like your little sister. All our conversations were filled with laughter. You were always there for me, and always available to advice and assist whenever I came to you.

Even as the years passed, distance separated us, and life got busy, we never lost contact. We always kept in touch, especially on our birthdays every year.

You will be truly missed by all who knew you.  
But the memories, the laughs, and the love you gave will be cherished forever.

Dear Pastor Okide,
I honestly do not know what words could possibly be enough at a time like this. The loss of a child is a pain that words cannot adequately explain. As your friend, brother, and fellow servant of God, I want you to know that we are standing with you in prayers .We trust God to strengthen you and the entire family.

The Bible says:
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

My prayer for you is that in the moments when memories suddenly overwhelm you, and when the reality of his absence becomes unbearable, the Lord Himself will draw extraordinarily close to you and your family. May the Holy Spirit become your Comforter in a way that no human being can fully accomplish. May He hold you when you have no strength to hold yourself. May He give you grace for each morning and strength for each night.

I pray that God will preserve your heart from bitterness, despair, guilt, and the torment of unanswered questions. Where your heart asks, “Why?”, may His presence whisper, “I am still here.”

My brother, you are permitted to mourn and still have faith. You can be devastated and still trust God. You can cry and still be a man of God. Grief is not the absence of faith; sometimes, grief is simply the evidence of how deeply we loved.

I pray for your wife, your children, and the entire family. May the Lord surround each of you with unusual strength and compassion. May He send the right people to sit with you, pray with you, listen to you, and walk with you through this valley even while you are still in the US — not people who rush you through grief, but people who understand that healing takes time.

You grew up a very intelligent, hardworking, caring, cheerful, and ever smiling person. Little did we know that your stay with us will be this brief. You took your academics very seriously and graduated as an Engineer with flying colours at a tender age.

At UMASS, you excelled further in your studies and graduated with a B.Sc. Degree with Magna Cum Laude Honours in Mechanical Engineering. Among your notable achievements in UMASS, was receiving the Vice Chancellor’s prize, which entitled you to a refund of one year’s tuition fees as an international student. We can recall the joy that filled our hearts then when the refund alert hit our account in Nigeria. You were consistently recognized on the Dean’s and Vice Chancellor’s list for academic excellence.

Kaka, what beats our imagination as your parents is your penchant for inventions. Even as a small child, you will always assemble and build locomotives. You even saved any money given to you, and when it is sufficient, you embark on market trips to buy parts to put together for your inventions. You turned your room in Lekki, Lagos into a workshop for experiments, as that’s what gave you joy. We watched you grow in grace in this area and always prayed that you would be one of the greatest inventors that the world ever knew. Your remote mentor was Elon Musk for the electric car and space jet inventions, and you carried that aspiration until you took your last breath. What an awesome endowment from the good Lord that we were privileged to shepherd and cater for, and we give God all the Glory.

Kaka, our cerebral scholar, gentle in disposition, quiet and unassuming, yet a great thinker. A man of swift action, a solution provider, a goal setter and above all, a goal achiever, we will surely miss you, but the memories of your legacies will endure in our hearts. We miss you dearly, but with gratitude to God for the brief and eventful life you lived, we say goodnight. We take solace in the fact that we will see you again at the resurrection morning. Rest well in the bosom of the Lord, until we meet in glory to part no more.

David (Kaka), we are short of words on your sudden and untimely transition unto glory and we will greatly miss you. We do not know what happened when you slept and did not wake up, but we bow to God’s sovereignty in this instance.

We are devastated to learn of your demise in USA. We received the sad news whilst in the queue at Lagos Airport boarding our evening flight to the USA on that fateful Monday (10/08/26) for our annual vacation. You were aware of the trip and had assisted us in organizing the trip logistics. As usual, we expected you to receive us at the airport in USA. But the reality hit us when it was your best friend that came to receive us. We were overcome with grief at the reality of your transition unto glory. However, as the Bible admonishes us, we will not weep as those who do not have hope. Rather, we give thanks, in line with I Thess. 5:18.

We give thanks because we understand that God, who created you, is your owner and we are just caretakers. Who are we then to question Him? Rather we give God all the glory for the privilege to have been your parents. We also give Him thanks for the precious memories we shared together with you.

Kaka, you have been a shining star in the family. Through your quiet and reserved demeanor, is a strong determination to excel in anything you put your hand to do. We saw the star in you from your primary school days, and you went on to shine brilliantly, both in academics and sports, in your secondary school at Whitesands School, Lekki, Lagos. There, you bagged awards in academics, track and field events and were nick-named ‘John De Hunter’ in Javelin, Swimming and Short Put. On completion of your secondary school education, due to your brilliant performance, you gained admission to 3 foreign universities in USA, UK and Canada. You chose to pursue Mechanical Engineering course at the University of Massachusetts (UMASS) Dartmouth. (Page 1 of 2)

What happened to you? We still cannot understand what happened. It is a mystery, and the mystery is truly beyond us. But who are we to question God?

You came! you saw! and you conquered. At just 32, you had already overcome so much. You were such a beautiful soul and you left your light and beautiful memories in the hearts of everyone who knew you....

The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:1–2, “To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born and a time to die.” God knew you from the very beginning. He knows the end from the beginning, and though we may not understand why He chose to call you home this early, we take solace in trusting Him. We cannot question the wisdom of the Almighty.


We are nothing but pencils in the hands of the Creator. He alone knows why He has taken you back home at this time. Heaven has truly gained an angel.


Keep resting in the bosom of the Almighty until we meet to part no more. Your light will continue to shine in our hearts, and your memory will live on forever.

I was heartbroken to hear about David’s passing. Working alongside him over this past year, I was always impressed by his sharp mind and how effortlessly he picked up complex ideas. David had no issue diving into new concepts and making recommendations based on his prior experience. His contributions meant a great deal to our team. David was always quick to put others before himself, and while he was naturally reserved, his smile had a way of lighting up the entire room. 

On a more personal level, my favorite memory of David includes his movie references. While he was working hard alongside his teammates, he was able to find an additional level of connection with his team through his love for movies. David was able to keep the room laughing with his references to the movie "The Hangover". 

David was truly a star and he will be missed immensely. My deepest thoughts go out to his family and loved ones

To his dear mother, my beloved friend, I pray that God gives you the strength and comfort to bear this unimaginable loss. May the beautiful memories of your son bring you comfort in the days ahead. May you find peace in knowing that Kaka was deeply loved, not only by you and his family, but by all those whose lives he touched.

Tribute to My Beloved Son, Kaka

It is difficult to find the right words to say goodbye to someone who brought so much light, joy, and warmth into our lives. Kaka was a vibrant young man in his thirties, full of dreams, energy, and promise. Though he was my dear friend’s son, he was much more than that to me—he was truly a son to my heart.

From the moment Kaka was born, I had the privilege of knowing him and watching him grow. When he started primary school, I became not only a family friend but also his teacher. I taught him, guided him, watched him learn and mature, and celebrated his achievements along the way. I witnessed the little boy he was grow into the remarkable young man he became.

Kaka was full of life. He was energetic, cheerful, and had a smile that could brighten any room. His presence brought a special kind of joy to those around him. He had a kind and generous heart and genuinely cared about other people. He respected everyone he met and was always willing to lend a helping hand. These qualities made him deeply loved and cherished by so many.

I was immensely proud of the man Kaka became. As his teacher and someone who had watched him grow from childhood, I felt a special bond with him. I looked forward to seeing him achieve his dreams, celebrating many more milestones with him, and sharing countless beautiful moments with his mother and family.

Sadly, life has taken him from us far too soon. His journey on earth was much shorter than any of us could have imagined or wished for. His passing has left a painful emptiness in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him. It is difficult to accept that someone so young, vibrant, and full of promise is no longer with us.

But even though Kaka's time on earth was far too short, the memories he created will remain with us forever. I will always remember the little boy I taught, the energetic child who brought smiles wherever he went, and the wonderful young man I was so proud to know. (Page 1 of 2)

From your toothless smiles to your full teeth infectious smiles. You were always calm and an observer. Always wearing a smile. I can't believe I am writing this tribute to you... Though your journey was short, it was full of love. From childhood you were a pure soul, not saying much but exhuming warmth all around. Though we are broken by your demise because according to our calendar, it is too early, we surrender to the calendar and will of our maker and take solace in His word that He gives and takes at His own time. Thank you for being a wonderful Son, Brother, Nephew, Cousin and Friend.

It is with a broken heart I write this tribute for David, my friend’s son. He was loved by all that knew him. David, I still struggle to put into words that you’re no longer here. You were more than my best friend. You were family. I am beyond grateful that life brought us together and that over the years, you became someone I could always count on. Your presence simply made life better.

What I admired most was how deeply you loved and cared for the people in your life. You consistently put the well-being of those you loved above your own. You may have carried yourself with a stoic demeanor, but your smile and laughter could light up an entire room.

I will always remember your ingenuity, curiosity and appetite for learning. You were always thinking, exploring new ideas and imagining things you wanted to create. Your mind was constantly moving, and I admired how you could see possibilities where others might not.

I will forever be grateful for the memories we shared, the conversations, the laughter and even the difficult moments. Those are the pieces of you I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

What I will miss most is your perspective, your quiet strength and the way you made people feel cared for. I will miss the conversations we still should have had, the ideas you still should have brought to life and the moments we were supposed to share.

What makes goodbye so difficult is knowing there was still so much left to say and so much time we were supposed to have together. I wish you had more time. I wish your family had more time with you. Most of all I wish you could know how deeply you were loved and how many lives you touched.

I promise I will never forget you David. I will honor your memory, speak your name and make sure the people who loved you know that you mattered deeply.

It was with great shock and extreme sadness that we received the news of your sudden demise. Word is not enough to express the pain and anguish that the news threw the entire Okide family and close relatives into. Death may have done its worst by snatching you away from us at such a tender age and terminating our high hopes from you, but we take solace in the promise of God that we shall meet again on the resurrection morning of the saints to part no more.
We treasure the memory of you as a humble, loving, cheerful and very intelligent boy in the years prior to your departure to USA for further studies and were both glad and proud to learn of your graduation with flying colours. We had looked forward to the days and occasion when you will come back to join us in a general family reunion and celebration.
Your dreams may have been cut short, but we believe that the impact you made both in our family and among relatives and friends shall continue to speak positively in our minds and earn you a place in God’s eternal kingdom.
We miss you dearly and mourn your passing but if it is God's will to take you home for rest at this time we surrender to his supreme will and say, 'May His name be praised for the life you lived’. Our prayer is that He strengthens both your parents and all who mourn your loss to bear the pain and guide us all to learn to be prepared for His call to rest at any moment.
My family, the larger Okide family and your kindred greatly miss you. Many have called to commiserate with us on your untimely departure. My sincere and heartfelt condolence to my dear friend Dr. Uju, Kaaka's mother, and Pastor Emeka, his father.  Kaaka's death was a big blow on us. Kaaka went to the same college, UMASS Dartmouth with my daughter, Barbara. He was like a son to me and my family,   He was a vibrant,  hard- working, loving, and highly motivated young man.  His passing onto glory was shocking to us but who are we to question God. Kaaka's parents are devoted servants of the most High God. I pray that the great moments and love Kaaka shared with everyone whose lives were touched by him will be a consolation to his friends, family and loved ones. God has called his beloved son to be with him because he loved him more.  Even though we miss him so much and would want him back with us, the Almighty God knows better.   I pray for the repose of his loving and gentle soul.  I pray that God who allowed it will make the burden bearable for his loved ones, especially his family.  May God comfort his beloved family, and grant them the fortitude to bear this great loss. May God grant Kaaka's soul his eternal rest. I was so excited that we got to enjoy the beach in October with such beautiful weather. It became one of our most peaceful days together, and I remember feeling like it brought us closer. I’ll always cherish this day.

TRIBUTE TO MY FRIEND'S SON (David O. Okide).

My friend's son is gone.

It still looks unimaginable that my friend's son 'Kaka' as we fondly called him is gone. There are no words that can express the depth of sorrow that I feel for the loss. Losing a child is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know, talk less losing one at Kaka's age (32 years). 

Since the day my friend (Dr. Mrs Uju Okide), broke the news of Kaka's demise to me, my heart has been so heavy knowing the high level of loss and pains that have hit her and her family. To worsen it, she is not in Nigeria to be surrounded by friends and families for consolation as she and her family traveled to USA for their summer holidays. I pray that God gives you and your family the grace and fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss, in Jesus name, Amen.

Kaka was like a son to me. I still remember vividly when Kaka was born and how I did leave my house very early in the morning to go and assist her mum as a newly born mother. I would bathe Kaka, cook and wash Kaka's clothes, before his grandma came.

Kaka was born a very cute child, a great bundle of joy and pride to us. Just two weeks before your demise, I had a long hour phone conversation with your mum. We talked a lot about you, her hope and prayers in seeing you get married in no distance time. Little did we know that Mr death was knocking so loud.

Your death was so unfortunate and sudden, but in all things, we allow what God permits to be. He has called you home as he had desired. We are grateful to God as we take solace that you were born and raised in the fear of God and under strong Christian doctrines.

As you are committed to mother earth today, we say fare thee well son, until the resurrection morning.
