Dennis A. Pelletier passed away 3/25/2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Armand and Rita (Chevalier) Pelletier. A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he graduated from New Bedford Vocational High School in 1964. He was the successful founder/owner of Pelletier's Appliance Repair since 1975 which is now being operated by his son Daniel. Dennis was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served in Vietnam in 1964-1965. He remained in the Marine Reserves achieving the rank of Master Sergeant until his unit relocated out of state in 1994. Following the Marine Reserves and missing the camaraderie of his fellow soldiers, Dennis joined the Massachusetts National Guard and continued to proudly serve his country until mandatory retirement in 2005. It wasn't until later in life that he shared his amazing stories with his family regarding his time overseas. He was a lifetime member of the New Bedford Poirier Post #3260 previously serving as commander for several years. He was also a member of the local Marine Corps League. Most importantly, Dennis was a devoted, loving father/grandfather to his children and grandchildren. As the patriarch, he was the center of the family and he will be terribly missed at the Friday Family Meetings where everyone gathered weekly at his home to catch up about each other's lives. Dennis is predeceased by his infant daughter Jennifer who passed away in 1975. He is survived by his daughter Michele Dreher and her husband Kurt as well as his sons Philip, Daniel and Matthew and is also survived by his wonderful grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Mikayla Cusson and her husband Colby, Kurtis Dreher, Molly Oliveira and her husband Yuri, Connor Dreher and Ellie Rose Delmonico. Dennis is also survived by his sister Dolores Garrison from California and his very close cousin Leo Pelletier and his wife Denise along with several nieces and nephews. Last but not least, Dennis is survived by his longtime companion Sue Deterra whom he loved and cherished. In lieu of flowers, Dennis would prefer donations to your local VFW to help support his fellow veterans. Semper Fi dad!
His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 10 a.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday 4-7 p.m.
