Doris J (Tetreault) Cloutier, 82 of Acushnet passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 after a brief illness. She was the widow of Roland R. Cloutier. Born in Marion, MA, she was the daughter of the late Ovide & Josephine Tetreault. She had resided in Acushnet for the past 50 years. She graduated from St Anthony High School in New Bedford in 1957 and St Anne’s Nursing School in fall River in 1960. Doris worked for many years as an emergency room nurse for Parkwood Hospital and as a visiting nurse for the Town of Acushnet.
Doris enjoyed spending time with her beloved family and friends. She was an avid quilter, belonging to the Shining Tides Quilting Guild. She would often spend weeks at a time hand stitching full-sized heirloom quality quilts. She made and donated numerous quilts to the veterans Association, and was a quilting instructor. Doris also made many hats and blankets for newborn babies that she donated through local hospitals and women’s shelters.
She was an excellent cook and loved to share her talents with family and friends. She meticulously maintained her flower and vegetable gardens and used her fresh produce extensively in her cooking. She also loved to watch the wildlife in her yard, especially all the different types of birds and could identify nearly every bird by sight and by its call.
She is survived by her 3 sisters, Annette Lawrence of Florida, Paulette McKay of Swansea, and Suzanne Tetreault of Westport, and two brothers, Ovide Tetreault and wife Bonnie of Idaho, and Arthur Tetreault and wife Inez of Vermont. She is survived by her 5 children, Roland Cloutier Jr. and wife Vanessa of Wareham, Suzanne Bernier of Dartmouth, Tom Cloutier of Texas, Paul Cloutier of Acushnet, and Cathy Charpentier and husband Paul of Acushnet. Doris has 5 grandchildren, Nick Charpentier and wife Kara, Ben Charpentier, and Abby Charpentier all of Acushnet, and Emma Bernier and Jack Bernier of Dartmouth. She also has several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 11:00am in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd New Bedford, MA 02745. Visitation will be held prior from 10am-11:00am. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. For online tributes please visit our website at www.rock-funeralhome.com
