Doris T. (Bernard) Ferreira, age 85, of Acushnet, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Joseph Ferreira.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Wilfred and Georgiana (Toussaint) Bernard, she had lived in Acushnet for the past sixty years.
Doris worked as a waitress in her parents’ restaurant, Bernard’s Luncheonette, for several years and helped out at their Candy Store in Baylies Square. She also worked as a stitcher in various local garment shops for many years before retiring.
She enjoyed sewing, painting, traveling and especially loved being with her family. She will best be remembered by people for her bright smile and naturally sunny disposition. The family would like to thank Community Nurse and Hospice Care for their support.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sandee Lewis and her husband John of Arundel, England and Jo Ann Racine of North Dighton; three grandchildren, Leslie Mitrano and her husband Scott of Vermont, Sarah Arguin and her husband Matthew of North Dighton and Christopher Racine of Tiverton; five great grandchildren, Michael, Tori and Adrianna Mitrano of Vermont and Kaitlyn and Ella Arguin of North Dighton; several nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Leo Bernard.
Her funeral will be held Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 9:30 AM from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., followed by her funeral mass at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph-St. Therese Church, Acushnet Ave., New Bedford.
