Dorothy A. (Campbell) Stott, 97, of New Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at the Sacred Heart Home. She was the wife of the late Wallace A. Stabell, Sr. and the late Harold “Bud” Stott.
Born in Norwalk, CT, a daughter of the late John A. and Clara (Robinson) Campbell. In 1950, she traveled by train to make her new home in New Bedford.
Mrs. Stott had worked as a health aide at St. Luke’s Hospital for many years. She expressed her desire for a healthy life with her love of cooking which she shared with others.
Dorothy had a lovely soprano voice which she loved to share with the community. She was a member of several choral groups including the Stetsonaires who toured the Southcoast area, the New Horizon choral group and the City Hall choral group. Dorothy was a woman of strong faith. Her church and church family were very important to her. But most important to her were her children and grandchildren and their families. She had an amazing memory till the end able to recall each birthday, anniversary and special events in their lives. She was very proud of her Scottish heritage.
Her family includes her daughter, Kathleen M. Kitchens and her husband David of Georgia and son, James M. Stott of Florida; her daughters-in-law, Rosalie C. Stabell and Rolande DaRocha of New Bedford; her siblings, Patricia Hahn and her husband Russ of Florida and Richard Romaine and his wife Betty of Vermont; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two sons, Gerald W. Stabell and Wallace A. Stabell, Jr., brothers, John Campbell, II, Donald Campbell and sister, Janet Greene.
Dorothy’s family would like to give special thank you to the dedicated and caring staff at Sacred Heart Home and the special hospice team from Community Nurse Services.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 2-5 p.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Funeral Service, Monday, May 6, 2024 at 10 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 764 Hathaway Rd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
