Douglas “Dougie” Costa, age 58, of Acushnet, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2019 in St. Luke’s Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Kellie A. (Couto) Costa, with whom he shared 38 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, a son of Edward and Emily (Cynar) Costa, he was a lifelong area resident. Dougie was a graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational High School, class of 1980. He was employed as a Sr. Programming Engineer or as Doug would say a “Machinist” with Accudynamics for the last 28 years.
Dougie loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren; he enjoyed traveling with Kellie. He especially enjoyed their camping trips with the kids and grandchildren. He loved baseball and was a coach for the Fairhaven Little League where he was on the Board of Directors. He also coached for the Acushnet Legion baseball league. Doug was also an avid bowler accomplishing a 300 game in 1987.
In addition to his loving wife and parents, he is survived by his children, Randy E. Costa and his wife Cristina of Acushnet, Ryan D. Costa and his wife Sharon of South Dartmouth and Heather C. Costa and her companion John Regan; his siblings, Dennis Costa and his wife Patricia of Mattapoisett, David Costa and his wife Cheryl of New Bedford, Deborah Davignon and her husband Eric of New Bedford and Cheryl Costa and her fiancé Bobby Jaynes of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Ryan Jr., Benjamin, Caliana, Cheyenne and Landon Costa and many nieces and nephews.
Douglas’ funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 11:30AM in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation prior from 9:30 to 11:30AM. Burial in River-Side Cemetery.
