Born August 28, 1942, in Lomba de São Pedro, São Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Jorge Amaral and Etelvina de Paiva Oliveira Amaral. Edmundo immigrated to the United States in the late 1960’s, settling in New Bedford before making his home in Acushnet.
He worked for Riverside Manufacturing Co. for more than 40 years, serving as a supervisor in Quality Control. Edmundo was also a founding member of the New Bedford Sports Club, where he served as its longest-standing president. The club was a source of great pride for him, and he enjoyed the many years he spent there supporting the organization and the community.
Edmundo was predeceased by his first wife, Maria Rosa Sampaio Amaral. He later married Maria Jesuina Sousa Amaral, his surviving wife. He was the proud father of three sons: Nelson Amaral and his spouse, Deno; Scott Amaral and his spouse, Casey; and Timothy Amaral and his spouse, Chelsea. He was a loving grandfather to Sebastian, son of Scott and Casey.
He is also survived by his sisters, Octavia Maria de Oliveira Amaral and Maria Aida de Oliveira Amaral Ponte, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Edmundo enjoyed good meals, cheering for Benfica, spending time at the Sports Club, and returning to his beloved Azores. Above all, he was devoted to his family and took great pride in providing for those he loved.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he was proud to be a part of.

Visitation will be held at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA 02745, US, on September 26, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Francis Xavier Parish, St Francis church, Acushnet, MA 02743, US, on September 26, 2026, at 11:00 am. Burial in Acushnet Cemetery.
