Born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Evert and Anastasia (Chesnelewicz) Hammarquist, he was a longtime resident of Acushnet. Edward was graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School. After graduation, he began his lifelong career at the former New England Telephone Company, retiring in 1995.
Edward loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was always of the utmost importance to him. He was extremely committed to his children and grandchildren and always enjoyed family time. He was a patient, selfless and committed man. He enjoyed playing Checkers and was the Checkers Champion; he loved antique cars, model planes and ships. Ed was also the consummate handy man. He would fix anything and help anyone who needed a helping hand. There was nothing he could not fix. The one thing he did enjoy was a great cup of coffee at Dunkin or just his coffee time.
Edward is survived by his loving children, Deborah Hammarquist of Acushnet, Paula Sylvia and her husband Alan of Bourne, Jeffrey Hammarquist of Acushnet, Suzanne Hammarquist of Acushnet and Michael Hammarquist and his wife Janine of New Bedford; seven grandchildren, Cortney, Bobby, Brandon, Scotty, Joshua, Tyler and Brittany; six great-grandchildren, Vivienne, Vincent, Giada, Alanna, Isabella and Rowan; and several nieces and nephews.
