Born in Cambridge, she was a daughter of the late James J. and Margaret (Gannon) Canavan.
Eileen spent the first half of her life in greater Boston, where she had a long career at Polaroid. She later relocated to the South Coast and worked in the New Bedford Public School system for many years.
Better known as “Aunty,” Eileen brought warmth and humor everywhere she went. She enjoyed volunteering, walks, and spending time with her family and friends. And she often reminded us, “carpe diem ‘cuz tempus fugit.”
Eileen was beloved and will be forever missed. She is survived by her siblings Rosemary Sullivan of New Bedford, James Canavan of San Diego, Michael Canavan and his wife Marilyn of Somerville, Paul Canavan and his wife Wendy of Hernando, FL, nieces Eileen Sullivan and Maura Canavan, nephew Kevin Canavan, and great niece Niamh Sullivan. She was the sister of the late John Canavan of Melrose, Steven Canavan of Cambridge, and Richard Canavan of Somerville.
A Mass and Celebration of her Life is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10 AM in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarklin Hill Rd., New Bedford.
