Eleanor “Ellie” J. (Smith) Jardin, 68, of New Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was the beloved and devoted wife of the late Gary A. Jardin with whom she shared many years of marriage.

Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late George and Janet (Treadup) Smith, she was a lifelong resident of the city.

She was a graduate of New Bedford High School and LaBarons Hairdressing Academy. She worked as a hairdresser in earlier years.

Ellie, the Matriarch of the family, was a woman of faith who loved Jesus and always thought of others before herself. She cared for everyone, especially her loving family. She enjoyed writing in her journals throughout the years. Ellie was very close to her family and it is believed their powerful connection was the key to her strength.

She is survived by her children, Craig Jardin, Christie Jardin, Carrie Jardin and her fiancé Kyle Lacasse and Cherie Jardin all of New Bedford; a brother, David Smith and his wife Barbara of RI; eleven grandchildren, Jarrid, Craig Jr., Justin, Casey, Ayden, Calob, Codey, Jainie, Jaycie, Kylie and Kashtyn; two great-grandchildren, Camdyn and Clayton; brother-in-law, Russell Jardin; sisters-in law, Janice Holmes and husband Wayne, Carol Richards and husband Roger, Debra Jardin and Cathy Ingraham; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. She was the sister of the late Gary and Craig Smith. Visiting hours, Wednesday, July 24, 2019 from 5-8 p.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. I remember the times you drove everyone around after we got out on NBHS and your mother wanted the car back right away.
