Born in Portsmouth, RI he was the son of the late Ellwood Munroe and Rose (Gagnon) Munroe. He served in the United States Air Force and Navy in World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Ellwood worked as a technician for Bell Atlantic until his retirement.
He is survived by two sons; Glenn Munroe and his wife Karen of New Bedford and Mark Munroe of New Bedford. He was the son of the late Brian James Munroe.
A private graveside service was held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery on August 8, 2018. Arrangements were in the care of the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
