

Born in Achada, Sao Miguel, Azores, a son of the late Joao F. and Maria da Gloria (Andrade) Costa, he was a longtime resident of New Bedford. Fernando was previously employed as a police officer prior to immigrating to the United States. He later worked as a medical instrument maker for Johnson and Johnson prior to his retirement.
Fernando loved his family dearly; he was a member of Saint Michael's Club and an avid Benfica fan.
In addition to his loving wife Maria, he is survived by his brother Abel F. da Costa and his wife Zelia of Ponta Delgada; his in-laws, Gloria da Costa, Judite da Costa, Eugenia Bulhoes, Esperanca Rodrigues, Jose Furtado and his wife Aledia, Arthur Matias and his wife Itelvina, and Jorge Furtado and his wife Maggie. He was the brother of the late Joao F. and Jose F. da Costa, brother-in-law’s Manuel O. Rodrigues, Estevao Bulhoes. Many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 9:00AM in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford, MA 02746. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
