George L. Aguiar, 57, of Medfield and formerly of New Bedford, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Lucy (Mendonca) Aguiar, to whom he would have celebrated 30 years of marriage in September.
Born in Caracas Venezuela, he was the son of the late Lionel and Inez (Aguiar) Fravica.
George graduated from New Bedford High School and Southeastern Massachusetts University, (now UMASS Dartmouth) in Electrical Engineering Technology. He worked many years as a software engineer. He later completed a Management Development Program from Boston University and was currently employed as a Business Analyst.
George loved soccer and was a dedicated fan, player, coach, and referee for most of his life. He was a member of National Soccer Coaches Association of America and was awarded a certificate of achievement by Eastern Massachusetts Soccer Official Association.
Besides his wife he is survived by his son, Curtis Aguiar of Medfield; his daughter, Kristen Aguiar of Medford; his brother, Octavio Aguiar and his wife April of Lakeville and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 9:30 AM from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by his funeral mass at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Rivet St., New Bedford. Burial will be private. Visiting hours, Wednesday 4-8 PM.
