George Fernandes

George Fernandes, 88, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025 after a brief illness. George was born and raised in Fairhaven and was the son of the late Albano and Flora (Moquin) Fernandes and brother to the late Roger Fernandes.  He was extremely devoted to his late wife Katherine (Viera) Fernandes to whom he shared 26 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 1996.  He was employed by Polaroid until his retirement and was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church.

George is survived by his only daughter, Karen and her husband Cory Cheesebro of Dartmouth and his only granddaughter Katherine; and a niece, Nicole Jackman.  

George’s greatest joy was the time spent with his daughter and her family. He could often be found cheering for Katherine and her team at sporting events or laughing with his many friends at the YMCA in New Bedford. George was loved by all for his kindness, soft-spoken manner, and willingness to help anyone that needed it.

The family would like to thank the staff of Autumn Glen and the amazing nurses of Beacon Hospice for their care and support.
