George F. Leahey

George F. Leahey, 71, of New Bedford passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019 unexpectedly in his home. He was the beloved husband of Johanna Sylvia Leahey and with whom he shared 20 joyful years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late George F. and Alice Leahey he was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Leahey graduated from New Bedford High School in 1968. He attended U-Mass Amherst and at the age of 60 graduated with his business degree from Bristol Community College.
George worked as a machine operator for many years. His favorite job was working as a food demonstrator at BJ’s. In his spare time, he loved sports, dancing, and he had a mandatory morning ritual of reading the morning newspaper and drinking his coffee.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Dennis Leahey of Fairhaven and Timothy Leahey of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at10a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, 16 Temple Place, Fairhaven. Burial will follow in Acushnet Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 4-8 p.m. in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745. So very sorry for the loss of your husband. Always looked forward to see George in my chair. We would talk sports and he would always make me laugh. I will miss him, one of my favorite patients!
