Gerald W. (Jerry) Stabell, age 75 of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020 in his residence with his loving family at his side. He was the husband of Rosalie C. (Robitaille) Stabell to whom he shared 48 years of marriage.
Born in Stamford, CT, a son of Dorothy (Campbell) Stott and the late Wallace Stabell. He was a longtime New Bedford resident. Jerry was a graduate of New Bedford High School class of 1962; he later attended class at UMass Dartmouth. He served his country in the United States Army, obtaining the rank of Corporal. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Medal and the Sharpshooter Medal.
Jerry was employed by the City of New Bedford, City and Parks Department for 20 years, retiring in 2007 and previously by Morse Cutting Tools.
He loved his wife and family dearly. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He was a member of the American Legion, where he was the Adjutant for more than 20 years, retiring due to his illness; he served as Past Commander of the America Legion Post 166 for three separate terms.
In addition to his wife Rosalie and his mother Dorothy, he is survived by his siblings, James Stott of FL and Kathleen Stott of MS and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Wallace (Wally) Stabell.
