Born in Setubal, Portugal, a son of the late Manuel and Rosalina (Branco) Vieira. He lived in Murtosa, Portugal until coming to the United States in 1979. He was employed as a fisherman for 50 years. He was a devout husband to his beloved Maria, he enjoyed spending time with family especially his grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman, loved to sing, be on the water and loved telling stories and jokes..
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his 9 children, Jose Carlos Vieira and his wife Mana of Lakeville, Elio Jose Vieira and his wife Rosa of New Bedford, Manny Vieira and his wife Tina of Acushnet, Zeferino Vieira and his wife Alexandrina of Acushnet, Maria Kelly and her husband Cedric of SC, Victor Vieira and his wife Deanna of Mattapoisett, Ana Vieira-Littlefield and her husband John of Jamestown, Gloria Higgins and her husband Peter of ME, Rosalina Vieira and her companion Jay Oliver of Dartmouth; two brothers, Joao and Francisco Vieira of Portugal; 25 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by five siblings.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 9:30AM in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 230 Bonney Street, New Bedford, MA 02740. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00PM. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
