Ida Eva Fontaine

Ida E. (Poirier) Fontaine, a resident of the Atria, previously of Rochester passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 in Alden Court Nursing Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Fontaine.

Born in Acushnet, Ida was a daughter of the late Thomas and Emilda (Melanson), she was a long time area resident. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s, Fairhaven and was employed as a winder for Aerovox prior to her retirement.

She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ida enjoyed traveling, camping, knitting, puzzles, scratch tickets, Bingo and trips to Foxwoods.

Ida is survived by her children, Sandra Reale and her husband Stephen of Acushnet and Michael Fontaine of Narragansett; a daughter in-law, Carol Fontaine of Acushnet; a sister, Jeanne Coelho of CA; five grandchildren, Debbie Cassidy, Karen Elias, Tina Reale, Lisa McIlmail and Michael Reale; seven great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Cassidy, Nathan and Marissa Elias, Will and Katie McIlmail, Allyson and Jenny Reale; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Albert Fontaine and sister of the late Leo, George and Henry Poirier and Florence Lord.

I am so sorry to hear of Ida’s passing. I am one of the waitresses that work at Atria. Ida had a sweet smile and made my days there enjoyable. Sandy... I was saddened to hear of your Mom’s passing. I met her & your Dad years ago at the bank & they were both very special people. She was a good friend to Eddie at Atria & I always remember her helping him play Bingo.
