Jaime F. Sampaio, 78, of New Bedford passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021 in his residence surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. He was the husband of Natalina (Lima) Sampaio with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
Born in Sao Miguel Portugal, a son of the late Jaime C. and Lidia L. (Faria) Sampaio he grew up there and moved to America in 1970. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church.
While in Portugal, Mr. Sampaio served in the Portuguese military. He was a jack of all trades working with electrical and aerial mechanics just to name a few. Jaime was the second in command, behind his father, fire fighter in Ribeira Grande. His family will always cherish the memory of their super Dad who was an incredibly hard worker.
In America, he worked at Cliftex for 19 years before opening his own restaurant Vivara Restaurant which he ran for 20 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Nelia Raggiani and her fiancé Manny Martins, Gina S. Abreu and her fiancé Christian Stolz of Boca Raton, FL; and James Sampaio and his fiancée Kelly Abreu of New Bedford; grandchildren; Dyllin Abreu, Devin Abreu, Destiny Patricio, Dajia Morris, Jacob Raggiani, James Sampaio, Briannah Bernardo, and twins, Ayva and Andraya Sampaio; one great grandchild, Alyce Abreu; siblings, Leonor Galvao and her husband Luis and Lidia “Zinha” Medeiros and her husband Carlos; beloved Godchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Stella Costa and her late husband Jose, the late Carolina Lima and her late husband Jose Melo Lima, and the late Horacio Sampaio and his former wife Lucy of Acushnet.
His funeral, with limited capacity, will be Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 9 a.m. from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, limited seating available, 136 Earle St., New Bedford.
