James Antonio Luiz

James A. “Butch” Luiz, 66 of New Bedford, passed away suddenly unexpected Monday, September 25, 2023 in Tufts Medical Center. He was the husband of Maureen (Folcik) Luiz. They were happily married for 39 years.

Born in Acushnet, son of Beatrice (Bedard) Luiz and the late Alvaro Luiz. Butch was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School, class of 1976 and worked for many years in the manufacturing industry. He retired from Merrow Manufacturing in 2023.

Butch loved his family and friends with all his heart. He was the ultimate handyman, who would help anyone in need. He loved working in his yard, remodeling his home and especially adored his cats.

In addition to his loving wife Maureen, he is survived by his children, Timothy Luiz and his wife Alexandra Williams of Rochester and Joseph Folcik of New Bedford; a granddaughter, Jordan Folcik, his sister-in law Kathleen Macedo and her partner Jean Dibona and his sisters, Joan Luiz of Bonita Springs, FL and Barbara Rivard of East Freetown and her late husband Robert Rivard and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 2:00 to 5:00PM in the Rock Funeral Home,1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745. Relatives and friends are invited.
