James W. Thomas, Jr.

James W. Thomas Jr., 72 of New Bedford, passed away Monday, October 27, 2025 in St. Luke’s Hospital with his family at his bedside. The husband of Ann Marie ( Archambault) Thomas whom he shared 47 years of marriage.

Born in Marion, he was the son of the late James W. Thomas, Sr and Marion (Gifford) Thomas. James proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. He was employed by the Acushnet Company (Titleist) for 38 years prior to his retirement.

James loved his family dearly, especially his 6 grandchildren; he enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed country music, working in his yard and spending time with his grand dog Chase. He was very proud of his 3 Chevy Silverado’s.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Benjamin J. Thomas and his wife Melissa of New Bedford and Gregory R. Thomas and his wife, Kelly, of NJ; his six grandchildren, Amber, Tyler, Lily, Graham, Jack and Eloise; his siblings, Ronald Shurtleff of VA and Nancy Gonsalves of New Bedford. He was the brother of the late Francis, Harrison, Roger, Maude, Randy and Rona.

He visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 11:00AM to 1:00PM in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745, followed by a funeral service at 1:15PM. Relatives and friends are invited. To leave a note of condolence: www.rock-funeralhome.com
