Janet Mae West

Born in Acushnet, a daughter of Donald and Florence (Dupont) Sorelle she was a lifelong resident and a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Parish. Mrs. West graduated from Sacred Hearts Academy and later graduated from the former Southeastern Massachusetts University. She earned her Master’s Degree from University of New England.

Mrs. West was a teacher at the Freetown Lakeville Middle School. She was completely devoted to her family and she had a way of touching everyone who came into her life. Janet had a passion for reading often reading several books a week. She also enjoyed gardening, golfing, and quilting. She was member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Friends of Acushnet Library, and reading groups in Acushnet and Dartmouth.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Anne Saulnier and her husband Kevin of Westport and Jeanne Jennings and her fiancée Jeffrey Cutrone of Acushnet; siblings, Donald Sorelle and his wife Norma of Las Vegas, NV, Ann Borges and her husband Paul of Blackstone, Jacqueline Sorelle of New Bedford and Paul Sorelle and his wife Patricia of E. Freetown; four grandchildren, Emma, Lily, Andrew and Benjamin; and many nieces & nephews.

Her funeral will be Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 9 am from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a funeral mass at 10 am in St. Francis Xavier Parish, 125 Main St., Acushnet. Burial will follow in Acushnet Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 4-8 pm.
