Jean Pelletier, a lifelong resident of Acushnet and proud Navy veteran, passed away peacefully on April 29 at the age of 83, surrounded by the love of his family.
Jean lived a life of service, faith, and passion. A United States Navy veteran for 20 years, he retired with honor as a Master Chief Petty Officer, the highest enlisted rank. He served two tours aboard ships in Vietnam and proudly led the Navy Stage and Marching Bands in the U.S. Naval Academy, where his talents as a guitarist and his leadership inspired generations of servicemembers.
Following his military career, Jean continued to serve his country in civilian life. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business and went on to work for the federal government as an Auditor Accountant, serving in Boston and throughout the New England area with dedication and professionalism.
Jean was also deeply committed to his faith and community. A devoted parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church in Acushnet, he taught CCD to local children and was an active member of the Men of the Sacred Hearts, bringing sacred enthronement to homes across the region. He was a devoted member of the Franciscan Third Order, humbly living out its mission of simplicity, compassion, and peace.
A man of many passions, Jean remained an avid runner well into his later years, embracing energy and perseverance in all he did. A talented carpenter, he found great satisfaction in working with his hands and building things with care and intention.
Above all, Jean was a family man. He is survived by his loving children: Kimberly Bergeron and her husband Daniel, son Steve Pelletier, son Michael Pelletier and his wife Brenda, son Ronald Pelletier and his wife Kathryn, daughter Courtney Chaves and her husband Brent, and daughter Kimberly Semedo and her husband John. Jean was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of tremendous pride and joy.
He is also survived by his sister Elaine Lyonnaise and brothers Ronald Pelletier and Jeffrey Pelletier.
Jean’s life was a beautiful reflection of service, integrity, and love. His legacy lives on in the music he played, the faith he lived, and the family he so deeply cherished.
