Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Antone and Alice (Domingues) Vieira, she was a lifelong resident of the city of New Bedford. Joan was employed as a stitcher for many years at Ronnie Manufacturing. Above all, Joan cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, trips to the casino, Golfing, and Bowling. As an avid golfer, she proudly achieved two holes-in-one. She also looked forward to spending her winters in Florida.
In addition to her loving husband John, she is survived by her children, Mark P. Cote and his partner Michelle Pimental of New Bedford and Suzanne M. Pereira and her husband Graciano “Tony” Pereira of Dartmouth; her grandchildren, Kayla and her husband Josh Wunschel, Kyle Pereira, William and Eleanora Cote; a great-granddaughter Hazlee Wunschel; and her stepson John Henry Sylvia. She was the stepmother of the late Tracee Sylvia. Joan was the sister of the late Richard Vieira; Patricia Souza and her late husband, Roger Souza; and Nancy Maxim and her late husband, Richard “Dicky” Maxim. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to South Coast Hospice and its wonderful nursing staff for their compassionate care and support.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to be made in her name to the American Cancer Society or Southcoast Hospice.
Services will be held in the very near future.
