Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Roger and Denise (Gobeil) Fortin, she was a lifelong resident of the city. Joanne was a graduate of St. Anthony High School, class of 1965 and attended the Campbell School of Business.
Mrs. Brown worked in the insurance industry throughout the South Coast area for many years. She was happiest spending time with her beautiful grandchildren and working in her garden. Joanne enjoyed spending time at the beach, quilting, and serving as a volunteer for Community Nurse and Hospice Care.
She is survived by her two daughters Allyson E.B. Shannon and her husband Michael of New Paltz, NY and Melissa E. Troutman and her husband Scott of Jupiter, FL; four grandchildren Benjamin C. and Audrey E. Shannon and Olivia and Julianna Troutman; a brother Roger G. Fortin and his wife Janice of New Bedford; two sisters Madelyn St. Germain and her husband David of New Bedford and Joanne’s twin sister Suzanne C. Fortin of Dartmouth and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 10AM from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in St. John Neumann Church, 157 Middleboro Rd., E. Freetown. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 7PM. Burial will take place in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
