Joao R. Cabral

Born in Sao Miguel, Capelas, a son of the late Manuel and Maria (Santos Moniz) Cabral, he immigrated to the United States in 1975 and has lived in New Bedford for the past 37 years.

Mr. Cabral worked at the former Quaker Fabrics in Fall River for many years before retiring. He loved fishing and riding his three wheel bike.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Henry Cabral and his wife Nancy of Acushnet and John Cabral and his wife Ana of New Bedford; two daughters, Rita Ramos and her husband Antonio of New Bedford and Leonor Reis and her husband Licerio also of New Bedford; three sisters, Gogina, Fernanda and Hilda; two brothers in law, John and Henry Carreiro; two sisters in law, Aldina Mendes and Brazilina Tores; eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Manuel, Lois, Conceicao and Maria Jose and brother in law of the late Manuel and Tony Carriero.

His funeral will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 8 AM from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by his funeral mass at 9 AM in Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours, Tuesday 5-8 PM.
