Born in Freetown, MA a son of the late Ansel and the late Isabelle (Tinkham) Cornell he was a lifelong resident.
A truck driver for many years, he worked for several local contractors and was a member of the local union #104.
For years, Mr. Cornell was actively involved in trial research in the hope of contributing to finding a cure for Huntington’s Chorea, and most recently, the same rare cancer he additionally battled.
He is survived by one son, Jonathan D. Cornell and his wife Joy Adams of Amesbury; one granddaughter, Jane Cornell; six sisters, Shirley Chace and her husband Raymond, Grace Bernier, Barbara DeMoranville, Margaret Baker, Susan Pittsley and her husband Alford “Sonny”, and Nancy Westgate and her husband Brian; two sisters-in-law, Cindy and Rita Cornell; many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Richard and Leonard Cornell.
His Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford followed by his burial in Chace Cemetery, East Freetown. Visiting hours will be Saturday from 3:00 – 6:00 PM. Contributions may be made in his honor to Huntington’s Disease Society of America at HDSA, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902New York, NY 10018.
