Born in Acushnet, a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Minta) Koska, he was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Koska served in the United States Navy during World War II. John was a master electrician, who with his brothers started Koska Brothers Electric before deciding to launch his own business John T. Koska Electric. He was the wiring inspector for the Town of Acushnet for many years. He was also involved with construction and real estate development.
John had a passion for the game of golf and was a former member of the The Reservation Golf Club, Whaling City Golf Course, and the New Bedford Country Club. He won the New Bedford Country Club Fourball with Dr. Francis Grenn in 1958 and won 17 straight matches with his partner Stanley Nowak at the Elmwood Fourball. He was also proud to win the Reservation Fourball with his son Michael in 1989.
Mr. Koska was ambitious and a hardworking man. In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and watching the Red Sox and Patriots. He enjoyed vacationing at this Sarasota, Florida home.
The Koska family would like to thank his niece Cynthia Hubert for her support. They would also like to thank all his dedicated caregivers for their compassion and the professional care that they provided to John.
He is survived by his son Michael Koska and his wife Nancy of Fairhaven and a daughter, Carol A. Koska of Acushnet; a grandson, Lee Koska and his wife Madeline of Medford; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Sophie Valente, Jane Cronin, Mary Cronin, Mitchell, Edward J., and Stanley Koska.
His funeral will be Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 10 a.m. in St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
