OBITUARY

John Andrew Thayer

October 20, 1922March 2, 2018

John A. Thayer, age 95 of New Bedford, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018 in St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. He was the husband of the late Mary (Luis) Thayer.

He was born in Pittsfield, MA the son of the late Clarence J. and Florence (Blanchard) Thayer. John was employed with Park Motors in Fairhaven and the former Normand’s Meat Market in New Bedford.

He is survived by two step-daughters Helen DeCosta of Dartmouth and Rita DeSouza of New Bedford; seven grandchildren, Billy DeCosta, Kathy Starr, Diane, Andre and Kristine Arsenault, Lynn Connor and Michelle DeSouza; 13 great-grandchildren, 8 great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Thayer was the stepfather of the late Natalie Arsenault and grandfather of the late Jerry DeCosta and Vickie Blais.

His Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 9:30AM in St. Mary’s Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial will take place in Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of the Rock Funeral Home, New Bedford. www.rock-funeralhome.com
