

Born in St. Michael Azores, Portugal a son of the late Jose F. and Valentina C. (Falcão) Giesta. He immigrated, with his family, to the United States in May of 1966.
Jose worked as a meat manager at Food Mart and Stop n Shop for over 35 years. Jose was also the owner of Café Giesta and a strong advocate and sponsor of men’s softball, pool and dart league, live music and comedy shows. He was a big fan of the New England Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Sporting Clube de Portugal. The most important thing in Jose’s life was spending time with friends and family – especially his two sons.
He is survived by his sons, Jacob Giesta and Tyler Giesta of New Bedford; siblings, Gualter Giesta, Maria Giesta of New Bedford, Aires Giesta and his wife Susan of Dartmouth, and Stephanie Giesta and her fiancé Philip Medeiros of New Bedford; five nephews, Mark Giesta, Matthew Giesta, Austin Giesta, Quentin Giesta, and Daulton Giesta.
The family would like to thank all the CNAs, nurses, doctors at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, St. Luke’s Hospital, and Vantage of New Bedford for the wonderful and compassionate care of their father, brother and uncle.
