

Jose M. Montañez, Sr., 76, of New Bedford passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 10, 2017 in St. Luke’s Hospital after a sudden illness. He was the beloved husband of Carmen Rosa (Valentine) Montañez.
Born in Puerto Rico, a son of Fermin and Graciela (Torrez) Montañez he grew up there before moving to Jersey City. He lived most of his life in Massachusetts and he was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church.
Mr. Montañez worked in maintenance for Claremont Management Corporation. He was a jack of all trades that enjoyed fishing, camping and being in the outdoors. His family will always remember and regard him as a father figure to many.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three loving children, Ana Aldarondo and her husband Edwin of New Bedford, Jose Montañez, Jr. and his wife Kathryn of New Bedford, and Martha R. Ramos and her fiancé Anibal Gonzalez, Jr. of New Bedford; three grandchildren, Sarik Ramos, Damian Ramos, and Keanu Aldarondo; siblings, Sarah, Rosemary, Linda and Nora Montañez, Magdelin Hernandez, Evelyn Madrid, Juana Rodriguez, Antonia Negron and Maria Colon, Fermin, Jr., Eduardo, Reynaldo, Juan, and Raymond; and many nieces and nephews.
Jose was predeceased by his brother Manuel Montañez.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 15, 2017 at 10 am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1359 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Acushnet Cemetery.
