Joseph “Lenny” Abreu, age 79, of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Mass General Hospital. He was the long-time companion of Maria “Connie” Work with whom he shared 27 years together.
Born in Madeira, Ribeira Brava, he was the son of the late Jose and Maria Jose (Gouveia) DeAbreu.
Joseph was a graduate of New Bedford High School and was employed as a Liquor Distributor for Martignetti Companies, a wholesale liquors teamster for 24 years. He had a love for cars, traveling, New Hampshire, Cape Cod, an avid NE sports fan, and having the greatest sense of humor. Joseph truly loved and lived for his children, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the best father, grandfather, great-grandfather, lover and friend who will be deeply missed by many.
He is survived by his loving children, Michelle Abreu Harple and her husband Jimmy of New Bedford, Paul Abreu and his girlfriend Naomi Santos of New Bedford, Adam Abreu and his wife Michelle of New Bedford; six grandchildren, Jamison, Jasmine, Janae, Eric, Paige, and AJ; eleven great-grandchildren; his sisters, Adelaide Abreu, Isadora Conway, Natalie Frechette, and Irene Sousa, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Philamena Soares, Balbina McKinley, Luciana Langlois, Madeline Raucci, Theresa Abreu, and Antonio “Tony” Abreu.
His funeral service will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022 at 9:30am from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Rivet St. New Bedford. Burial is Private. His visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00pm in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745.
