Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Manuel and Hazel (Hudson) Souza, she was a lifelong city resident.
Kathleen graduated from Fisher College before beginning a career as a hairdresser, a profession that allowed her to share her warmth and kindness with so many. Above all else, family was the center of her life and her greatest joy. Kathy was a wonderful cook whose legendary kale soup became a family favorite and a symbol of the love she poured into every meal. She enjoyed spending time at Gooseberry Beach, keeping up with her favorite soap operas—especially General Hospital—and making lasting memories with family and friends.
Known for her sassy wit, infectious sense of humor, and vibrant personality, Kathy had a remarkable ability to brighten any room. Whether she was relaxing at home with her beloved cat, Roxy, or enjoying time with her many friends, she brought laughter and joy wherever she went. Her family will forever treasure the countless funny, spunky, and unforgettable stories she loved to share about her life, keeping her spirit alive in their hearts for years to come.
She is survived by a daughter, Nicole Barboza and her husband Michael of New Bedford; a brother, Glenn Souza of New Bedford; four grandchildren, Brianna, Dillon, Naythen, and Ethen; three great grandchildren, Nico, Luca, and Mateo with one on the way; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late, Kerrie Sturgeon; sister of the late Michael Souza and Brian Souza; and best friends with the late Patty Fay.
