Born in New Bedford, MA, she was the daughter of the late David R. Amaral and the late Denise I. (Basham) Connor. Kim was educated in the New Bedford public school system. Her youth was spent in the north end of New Bedford before moving to Aurora, Colorado for 20 years. In Colorado she was employed as a dispatcher and a bus driver. She returned to Massachusetts in 2012 to be closer to her family. Kim worked at Waring-Sullivan and Rock funeral homes as a receptionist and then entered the retail world.
Kim loved shopping, reading a good “romance” book and enjoyed watching horror and marvel movies. She was always on the search for a new dessert recipe. Most of all Kim enjoyed spending time with her son. Just simply going for a ride or watching Anime with him made her day. Kim was known for her kind smile and tremendous heart; she will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
Kim is survived by her son, Rasmane Koanda of Boylston, MA, her fiancé, Scott Mitchell and his family of Boylston, a sister, Cheryl L. Quintal and her husband Leonard of Acushnet, a brother, Douglas Amaral and his wife Taylor of Middletown, RI, two nephews Logan Quintal and Aidan Quintal. She also leaves behind Cheryl’s in-laws, Anthony Quintal and his wife Zita of New Bedford; two aunts Elaine Wunschel and her husband Steve of Fairhaven and Joyce Amaral of New Bedford; two uncles Roland Basham and his wife Bernadette of Daytona Beach, FL, and Dennis Amaral and his wife Deborah of North Port, FL, cousins, friends, and her loyal dog Fisher. Kim was the granddaughter of the late Joseph and Cecile Mandeville and the late Raymond and Rachel Amaral. She was also the niece of the late David Basham and his late wife Candy, the late Robert “Bobby” Amaral, and the late Debra Amaral.
