Leonard A. (Lenny) Cormier, age 77 of Acushnet, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018 in Charlton Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family after having a history of heart problems since age 35. He was the husband of Sandra J. (Tavares) Cormier to whom he had been happily married for 50 years.
Born in Acushnet, a son of the late Andrew and Jeanne (Tetreault)Cormier, he was a lifelong resident of Acushnet. Lenny was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School, class of 1958. Lenny was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in Panama. He was employed for over 20 years at the former Morse Twist Drill Co. and later he was employed as an Associate Court Officer for the Massachusetts Court system in Superior Court, New Bedford.
Lenny loved Sandra dearly, his family, animals and antique cars and was often seen at car meets and car shows with his 1964 Ford Falcon Sprint. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed going to the Newport Grand Casino and he was looking forward to going to the new Twin Rivers Casino in Tiverton. He loved the summer and sitting outside in the sun. He also looked forward to his weekly lunch dates with his buddies Paul and Gary.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother Richard Cormier and his wife Deborah of New Bedford; 1 nephew, 4 nieces, and 2 great nephews and his best friend from childhood, Paul R. Trahan of Acushnet. He was the brother of the late Lucille Cormier.
His funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 10:00AM in St. Francis Xavier Parish, 125 Main Street, Acushnet, followed by a burial in Tabor Cemetery.
