Born in New Bedford, MA on March 14, 1952, she took her last breath on March 9, 2018 in Cape Coral, FL. It is fitting that she passed during spring training, since “baseball” was her favorite sport.
A true Red Sox fan to the core, she enjoyed watching live spring training games at the Jet Blue stadium just a few minutes from her Cape Coral home. When watching regular season games on her television back in New Bedford, she had a habit of turning on the VCR and turning off the TV when the score was just “too close.”
Lorraine was a graduate of St. Anthony HS. Her first, last and only employer was the New Bedford School Department where she began as a secretary in the business office. She was exceptionally good at her job having worked her way up the ranks. Her favorite years were spent as personal secretary to Constantine Nanopoulous during his tenure as Asst. Superintendent and later as secretary to Business Manager, Steven Lamarche. For years it was “her voice” you heard when dialing the NB School Department telephone number prompting you with department information. She was a small woman, barely 5’2” with a very big job coordinating the many city school buses with their pick-up and drop-off locations for thousands of NB school children over the years. Teachers knew her as the “appropriations secretary” of the business office and when ordering supplies they stated: “you had to get past Lorraine first!” Upon retirement, Lorraine kept busy by volunteering at the Salvation Army and at Gifts of Give.
The eldest child of the late Hormidas and Dolores (Goyette) Trial, she is survived by her two younger brothers, Louis (Louise) and Rene (Michelle) all of New Bedford. Her nieces, Melissa (George Walsh) of Virgin, UT; Renee (Matt Mota) of Westport, MA; Danielle (Alex Lucini) of Johnston, RI and Hailey Trial of New Bedford, MA. In addition, she leaves behind her baseball loving Floridian friends and caregivers.
