

Manuel “Manny” Amaral Jr., age 89, of New Bedford passed away on Friday, August 23, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Sylvia (Jennings) Amaral to whom he had been married for 57 years.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Manuel and Anna (Paiva) Amaral.
Manuel was formerly employed at the Hoosac Mills and then Acushnet Co. (Rubber Division) for 38 years until his retirement in 1992. He served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany as a medical assistant.
Manny loved being active. He enjoyed doing yard work and maintaining repairs to his home. Manny was an avid bowler and belonged to many different leagues over the years at Fairhaven Bowling Center and Wonder Bowl. He enjoyed the most spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Steven Amaral and his wife Michelle of Dartmouth and Michael Amaral and his wife Diane of Westport; and his daughter, Susanne Da Silva and her husband Paul of New Bedford. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Eileen Ferreira. He also leaves a brother-in-law, Joseph Ferreira.
His Funeral will held on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at 9am from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am in St. Mary’s Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford.
