Manuel E. De Sousa

Manuel E. De Sousa, 94, of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 after a period of declining health at Alden Court in Fairhaven. He was the beloved husband of Maria Santo Cristo (Arruda) De Sousa with whom he shared 69 years of marriage.
Born in Matriz, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, a son of the late Antonio and Mariana (Ferreira) Sousa, he came to the United States on August 16, 1968 and settled in New Bedford.
Mr. De Sousa had worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing for many years until his retirement.
While in the Azores, he served in the Portuguese Army and specialized in shoemaking for the handicap. Manuel enjoyed bike riding, especially along the Cape Cod Canal, dancing with his wife, gardening, fishing, swimming and watching Benfica soccer. Manuel loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Louie De Sousa and wife Geri of Cassatt, SC, John De Sousa and wife Leonor of Taunton, Paula De Sousa and husband John of Huntington Beach, CA, Louise Camara and husband Lino of New Bedford and Anna Stuart and husband George of Wareham; a sister, Odilia Ramos and husband Tony of FL; five grandchildren, Nathan Camara, Chloe De Sousa, Marisa Camara, George Stuart, IV and Jacquelyn Stuart; two great-grandchildren, Christian and Rhea; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Jacinto De Sousa, Carolina Sousa and Luxcina Medeiros.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Alden Court for all their care and kindness.
His Funeral will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday 5-7 p.m.
