

Manuel M. Paiva, 73 of New Bedford, passed away Saturday, February 01, 2025 in St. Luke’s Hospital with his loving and devoted family at his bedside. He was the loving husband of Alda (Carvalho) Paiva.
Born in Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Portugal, he was the son of the Jose DeSousa and Maria Ines (DeMelo) Paiva, he was a longtime resident of New Bedford. Manuel served in the Portuguese Army prior to coming to America. He was employed as a trucker for more than 30 years, retiring from Pier Fish in 2023.
Manuel loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren; he enjoyed relaxing at home, listening to Elvis. He was an avid Benfica fan, enjoyed animals and any good music. He was a truck and car enthusiast. He also enjoyed watching Spanish novellas and RTP.
In addition to his loving wife Alda, he is survived by his children, Sandra Almeida and her husband John of Acushnet, Stephanie Paim and Steve Paiva of New Bedford; his five grandchildren, Kristin, Karina, Kai, Kiana and Steve Jr.; his siblings, Jose, Mario, Angela, Gila, Lisabete and Madalena; many nieces and nephews; his Pier Fish family and many near and dear friends.
His visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 9:00 to 10:00AM in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745 followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford, MA 02746.
