Maria D. Araujo

Maria D. (Ortiz) Araujo, age 76, of New Bedford, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late John Araujo Jr., with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage.

Born in Cazalla de la Sierra, Spain, she was the daughter of the late Manuel G. and Antonia O. (Vilar) Conde.

Maria came to America in the late 60’s and was a homemaker who proudly took care of her family. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, going out to dinner with her son and husband and traveling the world together. Her family, culture and heritage was very important, especially in her younger days, taking walks, flamingo dancing and clamming on the beaches in Spain. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her only loving son, Michael J. Araujo of New Bedford; her sister Carmen Escobar and her husband Pepe of Spain; her brother, Manolo Ortiz of Spain; her niece, Rachel DaCosta and her husband Daniel of New Bedford, and several other nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Antonia Venegas.
